Installation Instruction

Tools:

Pliers. Narrow flat-bladed screwdriver.

Removing Derailleur:
Disconnecting the cable to remove the rear derailleur.

Removing the old spring:
1. Locate the end of old spring on the open-ended pin.
2. Put on protective eye wear.
3. Knock the end of the spring out of the open-ended pin, using a screw drive from the opposite side of the derailleur body.
4. With pliers pull the old spring out of the picot pin.

Installation

Hook-end first

  1. Drop the Power Spring inside the derailleur body with the hook end against the pivot pin.
  2. To keep the spring from flopping sideways, hold the spring with your fingers through two openings of the derailleur body.
  3. Using the tip of a flat-bladed screw driver, guide the hook end to go over the pivot pin.
  4. As you guide it move the derailleur body away from the derailleur cage by 1/2" so that the hook end will go further inside the pivot pin enclosure.
  5. The Power Spring does not go over the pivot pin enclosure.
  6. Hold the screw driver sideways. Then push the spring at the shoulder so that the hook end will pop over the pin.

Closed-end next

  1. Insert a screw-driver between the two coil springs.
  2. Close the derailleur; the open-ended pin will come close to the closed-end of the Power Spring.
  3. Note: the more open the derailleur, the more difficult it is to hook the spring as it must be stretched further, moving away from the spring.
  4. Pry the closed-end up by lifting the screw driver for hooking.
