良書を読まない者は文盲（無教養）に優れず
無教養の怖さ
第二次世界大戦の時、アメリカ政府の戦略の一環として、国民に日本の真実を知らせなかった。しかし、ドイツに関してはヨーロッパということもあって、余りにも良く知りすぎていたので、国民の目と耳に蓋をして嘘をおしえることができなかった。日本の場合はドイツと異なって白人達の間に日本に関する知識がなかった。日本全体を悪と決め付けても支配グループの白人には疑いの余地もなかったのだ。ところが、ドイツの場合は彼らが知識を持ち合わせていたので、敵がドイツではなく、ナチスだということがわかっていた。 これは僕の親友（マウンテンバイクのパイオニア）からの手紙に書いてありました。彼はユダヤ人です。
日本に関する知識欠如の悲劇により軍国主義者のみならず、彼等をひっくるめた全国民が悪というカゴに入れられてしまったのです。原爆の恐ろしさもまだ良く理解はしていなかったことでしょう。悪を退治する上で、原爆のひとつやふたつ落とすことによって、早く日本が降参するのなら、アメリカ兵からの犠牲もこれ以上だすことはない、という国民感情があったのです。
こういった意味でも知識を増やすということが、対象がなんであれ、相手への理解につながるのです。知識といってもきちんとした知識が必要です。日本人がもつ白人崇拝主義は、同時にアジア人蔑視、韓国人蔑視、黒人蔑視、そしてイラン人蔑視という形でも現れています。韓国の長い歴史と文化そして我々のルーツが朝鮮半島にあることを教養として知るならば、無教養な韓国人への偏見をもつこともないし、イランが極めて親日的な国であることを教養として知っていたならば、８０年代に来日したイラン人労働者たちに対しても別の接し方があったと思います。

下は友人からの手紙
During the World War II to keep the strong anti-Japanese propaganda that unified America, strategically people were kept blind. As a result, the lack of information made Americans to believe Japanese were all bad.
American people were more informed of Germany as the majority was from Europe. They all knew they were fighting against Nazis, and not German civilians.
This shows the level of knowledge makes a great difference in the perspective. US government dropped a mass-destruction bomb in Hiroshima followed by one over Nagasaki just to hurry up and end the war when American government had already knew Japan only had bamboo sticks left to fight against B-29.
They knew it was a matter of time Japan would surrender. However they killed hundreds of thousands of civilians not just the military facility. Without Hiroshima Japan would have surrendered. US knew this, but they actually wanted to drop them for testing the bombs in a real war situation. Without Nagasaki Japan would had been sure to surrender as well. US knew that, but they wanted to drop them before Japan surrendered.
Two bombs were dropped to finish up the war to save the lives of American soldiers as far as their excuse. Before the drop of the bombs American government knew they had wiped out the most of Japan's military capabilities.
Americans also knew Japan run out of fuel;Japan run out of the fuel even before they got in the Pacific War. US government knew all these. As far as American people the bombing was good thing because the government said it saved American lives even when the battleground was outside the US territory.
American citizens were not informed of the situation in Japan. To me, Iraqi situation could be very similar. People just aren't informed correctly but wrongs of it only because the government is manipulating to win a strong support.
